Congratulations Ms. Oettel Ms. Joy Oettel has been selected as the Hume-Fogg Teacher of the Year for the 2011-12 school year. She teaches 9th grade English I Honors and the journalism class that produces the student-led newspaper, The Knightly News and serves as chairperson of the English department. Under her direction, the Knightly News won 1st place at the State Journalism Convention in March of 2012. Ms. Oettel is an extremely dedicated, creative, and innovative teacher-congratulations! She will be recognized at the Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools Teacher of the Year Banquet on Monday, 4/16 at the Maxwell House Hotel.
Congratulations Frank Lyles Frank Lyles, an HFA journalism student, has been awarded a scholarship and position at the Al Neuharth Free Spirit Journalism Conference this summer at the Newseum in Washington, DC. The conference only accepts one student journalist from each state! Frank was awarded this honor based on his essays and writing portfolio from The Knightly News.

Any person wishing to play a sport for Hume-Fogg next season…2012-2013 will need to get a physical! Your physical forms from TSSAA must be filled out prior to attending! Parent signature is required on the physical form or you will not be allowed to go through the exam! All athletes have to have these complete before participating in any summer practices. We were ranked #26 out of 21,000 public high schools in the US.
HFA also made the Top 50 list for the "Best Math & Science Schools" in the US, coming in at #44. Nearly 600 schools that qualified for the Gold, Silver, and Honorable Mention lists of the U.S. News Best High Schools were then evaluated based on their students' participation rates and performances on AP® exams in math and science.

Hume-Fogg named 2011 Blue Ribbon School posted by: Mashburn, Noelle B - MNPS at Sep 15, 2011 10:31:00 AM Hume-Fogg Academic Magnet High School has been named a 2011 Blue Ribbon School. The school currently ranks among Tennessee’s Top 10% in academic achievement and was awarded in the category of High Performing School.
In a press release issued by the U.S. Department of Education, Secretary Arne Duncan says, “America's long-term economic prosperity and civic engagement depends on our children receiving a world-class education," said U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan. "National Blue Ribbon Schools are committed to accelerating student achievement and preparing students for success in college and careers. Their success is an example for others to follow." The release also states that a total of 305 schools across the U.S. were named 2011 National Blue Ribbon Schools. Schools can be awarded for academic excellence or for success in closing the achievement gap. All schools, 256 public and 49 private, will be honored at an awards ceremony Nov. 14-15 in Washington, D.C. |
