Battle of the Bands

Kroger Partnership
We continue our ongoing partnership with Kroger. Kroger will giveHume-Fogg 4% of every dollar you spend back to our school! Contact Laurie Ranta, 945.1879,lranta@mindspring.com or Jill Thurman, 832-6705, thurmanfamily@bellsouth.net to get your Kroger card. Just load your card with money before you pay for your items and use as needed.
DON'T FORGET ....... If your card remains at a $0 balance for 90 days, it becomes inactive and a new one must be purchased from HFA.

We still need help getting to our goal of $100,000 honoring the 100 Year Celebration of our school! A new button has been added to the on-line donation page for gifts as an alumni or other friend of the school: <http://www.hfainvest.evrits.com/> If you're not a fan of on-line finance, even though our configuration is fast and completely secure, please deliver your check payable to HFA INVEST to the school's front office. STUDENT EXCHANGES
Host Family Needed for Austrian Student
Sixteen year old female student, is interested in an exchange through AFS next year. You can contact her teacher at erol.koymen@vanderbilt.edu for more information.
Summer Exchange
Travel Abroad and Hosting Opportunities with Sister Cities. The cost to students traveling is a $250 application fee; the cost of airfare to the destination city as well as a recommended $200 for incidentals, entertainment, etc. We have three groups of international students traveling to Nashville this spring from our sister cities partners. Students stay with host families for two weeks and attend the host student's school for a maximum of 4 days. The remaining days are filled with tours of Nashville, hosted by Sister Cities representatives. For host family and student exchange applications, please contact director@scnashville.org.
School Year Exchange
Open your heart and your home to an International High School student for one semester or a full school year. Each student in the Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) program is individually interviewed to ensure that they have the appropriate maturity level to be a successful participant in our program. Students are between 15-18 years old, have their own medical insurance, and spending money. Students will arrive in August, 2012 for 5 or 10 month.

SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY
Submit a 500-600 word essay about how your interaction with someonefrom another culture opened your eyes and changed your perspective. Visit www.ciee.org/globaleyes to apply. Scholarship applicants must be a graduating high school senior. Essays are due by April 30, 2012. Recipients will be announced May 15, 2012.
JOB WELL DONE
Art Award
We are very proud to say that Erin Wiseman was awarded a SilverKey Award for the National Scholastic Arts and Writing Competition. The piece that won was an oil painting, created from a still life setup of an onion and shallots. In January, Erin had won three Scholastic Arts Middle TN - Gold Key Awards for the onion painting, a life drawing portrait in ink and charcoal of “Ciara”, and an oil painting portrait of a live model titled “Nicholas”. All three works went on to compete nationally. Scholastic Arts will host a reception to recognize all the winners at Carnegie Hall in New York in June.

Cheerleading Tryouts
Hume-Fogg Cheerleading Clinic and Tryouts are from Wednesday, March 28-Friday, March 30 from 4:30-6:30 PM each day. Packets are available in the Main Office. Attendance all days is mandatory to be considered for the squad. Thank you and see you there!!!

Sports Physicals for 2012 Hume Fogg Sports: Vanderbilt Sports Medicine will be giving physicals for all High School Athletes on Saturday May 5th from 8:00 - 11:30 am. Cost is $10. The Hume Fogg time slot is at 9:30 am. Vanderbilt Orthopaedics 1215 21st Avenue South Medical Center East South Tower / 3rd Floor All athletes MUST bring a completed TSSAA Physical form SIGNED by parent. Download form at: www.tssaa.org/forms/health/med01.pdf. You cannot get the exam without this form signed by parent!

The baseball team concludes the second week of the season with a 5-3 record! Monday's game at Antioch was a 17-4 run-rule victory in 5 innings; a Home Run for Robin Hood, doubles for Isaac Weintraub and Adam Wyse, and three stolen bases for Zack Lannan. HFA hosted Gallatin HS on Tuesday at Rose Park and defeated the Green Wave 6-2; Lannan hit the fence for a stand up double, a double for Carter Pitts, and three stolen bases for Adam Wyse. Sycamore HS traveled to Rose Park on Thursday 3/19 and defeated the Knights 6-2; double for Isaac Weintraub, and an unassisted double play for Zack Lannan. Despite the rain, Saturday's game at Hillwood HS against visitors Memphis Central ended in a 5 inning 10-0 run-rule victory for the Knights; triples for Isaac Weintraub and Adam Wyse, two doubles for Robin Hood, a double for Griffin Sullivant, three stolen bases for Wyse, and the team's first no-hitter of the season for Taylor Lockridge.
