HOST FAMILY NEEDED FOR AUSTRIAN STUDENT:
A recent Vanderbilt/Blair School graduate who is teaching English in Austria as part of the Fulbright program has a 16-year-old female student, Sabrina Zechmeister, who is interested in an exchange through AFS next year. He recommends her highly and reports that she is a lovely girl who speaks English quite well. She is an amateur figure skater and would like to find a host family in a city with access to a rink and trainer. She would also like to continue her study of French, Spanish, and Latin while in the United States. Sabrina can be contacted at sabrina.zechmeister@gmail.com. Her teacher is aterol.koymen@vanderbilt.edu.
SUMMER EXCHANGE PROGRAM
Travel Abroad and Hosting Opportunities with Sister Cities. Rising freshman through seniors are invited to participate in our summer exchanges to:
1. Mendoza, Argentina June 1 - 14
2. Caen and Paris, France June 1 - 15
3. Magdeburg, Germany June 1 - 14
4. Gwangjin-gu, Seoul, South Korea July 8 - 22
All trips are chaperoned. The cost to students traveling is a $250 application fee; the cost of airfare to the destination city as well as a recommended $200 for incidentals, entertainment, etc. The Sister Cities programs abroad help fund student tours, entry to museums, some meals and transportation, similar to what Sister Cities of Nashville offers visiting exchange students. Host families provide room and board. Sister Cities has some financial aid available. We have three groups of international students traveling to Nashville this spring from our sister cities partners. Students stay with host families for two weeks and attend the host student?s school for a maximum of 4 days. The remaining days are filled with tours of Nashville, hosted by Sister Cities representatives.
We are seeking host families for these exchanges:
1. Gwangjin-gu, Metropolitan Seoul, South Korea Feb. 11 - 24
2. Magdeburg, Germany March 29 - April 12
3. Mendoza, Argentina April 9 - 22
For host family and student exchange applications, please contact director@scnashville.org.
KROGER PARTNERSHIP
We continue our ongoing partnership with Kroger. Kroger will give Hume-Fogg 4% of every dollar you spend back to our school! These dollars are a very important part of funding all our educational programs. Many of you already have a Kroger card, but now would be an excellent time to get one and begin supporting your child's school without changing any of your shopping habits and no extra cost to you. Contact Laurie Ranta, 945.1879, lranta@mindspring.com or Jill Thurman, 832-6705,thurmanfamily@bellsouth.net to get your card. Your card may be used to purchase any items in the Grocery store, Pharmacy, Photo Lab and Gas Station. Just load your card with money before you pay for your items and use as needed. DON'T FORGET ....... If your card remains at a $0 balance for 90 days, it becomes inactive and a new one must be purchased from HFA.
INVEST - THE HUME-FOGG PTO'S ANNUAL GIVING CAMPAIGN
$77,981.62 is the amount raised so far this school year, but we still need help getting to our goal of $100,000 honoring the 100 Year Celebration of our school! A new button has been added to the on-line donation page for gifts as an alumni or other friend of the school. If your business, graduated student or millionaire friend wants to support us, please send them to the same place you contributed on behalf of your student: <http://www.hfainvest.evrits.com/> If you're not a fan of on-line finance, even though our configuration is fast and completely secure, please deliver your check payable to HFA INVEST to the school's front office. Your support will be greatly appreciated and your donation is tax deductible! INVEST in excellence - TODAY!
