General 2011/2012 Guidelines for State-mandated Home School Testing

The Davidson County Home School office furnishes name and address information to the Research, Assessment, and Evaluation Department only for use in notifying Home School parents/guardians about required state-mandated testing.

State law provides that Independent Home School students in grades 5, 7, and 9 shall be administered the same
State Board of Education approved assessments required of public school students. Home School students registered with the Metropolitan Nashville Board of Education Home School office are to be tested at the zoned school that they would attend if they were a regular metro student. Students will be contacted by Group Testing via US Mail.

NOTE: Church related students are to be tested by the Church related school.
The various assessments and the students to whom they apply are listed below:
TCAP WRITING ASSESSMENT: February 4-8, 2013

5th grade Independent students only (plus some 6th graders who missed the assessment last year).
Group Testing notification will arrive in early January specifying school and contact person.
NEW for 2012/2013: Metro students will take the assessment online this year.
Home School students will continue to use paper-pencil versions of the assessment.
TCAP ACHIEVEMENT TEST: April 23 – 30, 2013

END OF COURSE ASSESSMENT in ALGEBRA 1 ONLY: First day for Algebra I is currently April 29, 2013

Independent 9th grade (only) students – ALGEBRA 1 ONLY.
Group Testing preliminary information will arrive in late March/early April.
Parents/Guardians respond if their student is currently taking Algebra 1 ONLY.
` Group Testing will then send school and contact person information to responding Parents/Guardians.
ONLY HOME SCHOOL STUDENTS IN THE GRADES/SUBJECTS SPECIFIED ABOVE WILL BE TESTED.
Scores for Home School students will be sent by Group Testing via US mail after they are received from state testing.
