Glencliff High has been awarded a Dollar General grant for $10,000 for its Family Literacy Project. The grant was written in partnership with Conexión Américas, and the funds will be used for promoting literacy for our Latino students and their families that attend our parent workshops. The program, entitled the "Family Literacy Project" will:
-
Enhance English classes and GED classes during the day and evening for our parents,
-
Provide literacy support for children while their parents attend Parents as Partners workshops,
-
Provide after school writing and reading support for Glencliff students,
-
Offer quarterly family literacy nights that will center around reading strategies for parents and story time for children and their parents, in cooperation with community partners, neighborhood libraries, and literacy specialists.
The Family Literacy Project will be coordinated in conjunction with Gini Pupo-Walker, Family Engagement Specialist at Glencliff, Laura Delgado, Program Coordinator with Conexión Américas for Parents as Partners, and Sue Johnson, Glencliff's Literacy Coach.
