Over Spring Break, 40 Cadets from Whites Creek High School AFJROTC (TN-943) enjoyed a trip to historic Charleston, South Carolina. While in Charleston, the cadets visited Patriots Point, home of the USS Yorktown, a World War II aircraft carrier and Ft Sumter, site of the first shots of the Civil War. They also toured a mini-C-17 and visited the flightline for a tour of an actual C-17, the Air Force’s newest cargo airplane.
According to Major Williamson, trip coordinator, “Charleston was an easy choice because all the history found there.”
Cadets were also given special access to Joint Base Charleston’s dining facility and gym. A final highlight of the trip was a dinner cruise aboard the Spirit of Carolina, where they had a “breathtaking” view of Charleston Harbor at sunset. Chaperones for the “learning-in-action” trip were Ms April Hardy, Ms LaDonna Copeland, Sgt Savington Nickens and Major Roosevelt Williamson. Trip Commander was C/Capt Issac Whaley.
