Hume-Fogg Weekly News – August 25, 2009

Each week during the school year, the Hume-Fogg PTO provides this on-line summary of upcoming happenings and news of interest to Hume-Fogg families. Information comes from H-F’s administration, teachers, parents, students, SGA and PTO committee chairs. If you have something you would like included in the Weekly News, please e-mail it to hfanews@evrits.com by 5:30 each Friday for inclusion in the coming week’s edition.

Upcoming Events & Deadlines

  • Reaccreditation Parent Survey completion deadline – Sept. 11 - This year Hume-Fogg is going through the reaccreditation process with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Your feedback as a Hume-Fogg parent will be used to reinforce our strengths and make any necessary improvements to our overall program. All 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students should have brought home a two-page information sheet about this important survey. Please sign and have your child return the first sheet, and use the second sheet to use to access and complete on-line survey, which will take about 15 minutes, by Friday, Sept. 11.

Math Lab open Monday-Thursdays from 3:15-4:15 p.m.
The mathematics lab will be open from 3:15 – 4:15 every Monday through Thursday. It will be staffed each day by a math teacher.  Students can receive math homework help and use computers to work on assignments for any class. 

Host for German Exchange Students needed
Ms. Bush is looking for four families willing to host four German girls who will be in Nashville from Sept. 29 - Oct. 10. Please contact Ms. Bush via email – Kurstin.bush@mnps.org – for more information about the girls.

Online Directory Available
The online directory, an online version of the printed school directory, is now available for the use of members of the Hume-Fogg community only. For security purposes you must register to use the program. Your username is the email address where you received this email. To register go to http://hfadirectory.evrits.com/register.php and follow the instructions. Once you are registered, please verify the listing for your student. If their listing is not accurate, please use the links to make changes. You will only be able to make changes to your own family’s information. If you ha ve requested information not be published, it will not be available online or included in the printed directory, but it will be visible to you, and available to Hume-Fogg for the school’s use in contacting you. Once you are registered, you may go to http://hfadirectory.evrits.com/, log in and use the directory at any time.

Model United Nations – See Ms. Smith if you want to participate
If you or your student is interested in participating in the Model United Nations, please see Ms. Smith in Room 314 if you didn’t attend the organization meeting.

Chess Team – still time to join
“The Chess Team” is an after school program that offersprofessional chess instructionat less than $5 per lesson.Your dues must be paid to Mr. Cash by Sept. 3, or you cannot participate at any time during the school year. After you have paid your dues, you may attend any Thursday during the school year that is convenient for you. Annual dues are $150, or add an extra $50 to help cover scholarships, for a total of $200. Make your check to “The Chess Team.” The Chess Team meets every Thursday, 3-4:15 p.m. in Mr. Cash’s room.  Mr. Todd Andrews, TN State Chess Champion, 1998, 1999, 2005-2007, will offer instruction.Scholarships are available.Questions? Join the Ice Hockey team
If you are interested in playing Ice Hockey for Hume Fogg, contact Gina Caudill by email ginacaudill@comcast.net or call me at 615-293-1955. Boy and girls in all grades are welcome to join the team. If you skate, have played in-line hockey, or have a desire to learn how to play hockey, you’re encouraged to sign up. We have a great coaching staff

Casting call for “The Lion in Winter” at Act 1
ACT 1 will be casting The Lion in Winter (production dates November 13-28) in late September. There are two late teen male roles available in this production. Audition information should be posted on their website within the next few weeks.
