Applicants to Hume-Fogg must meet the following academic criteria:
- The current Reading and Math CRT (Criterion Referenced Test) performance levels must be ADVANCED on both tests. Any achievement test that contains a National Stanine score can be used for students not attending a Metro Public School (Reading and Math stanine scores together must total at least 14); it does not have to be the TCAP test, but the student must furnish a copy of the results to the magnet school office with the application, AND
- The grade average is 85 or above for the spring semester of the last year and the 1st and 2nd six weeks of the current school year with no failing grades
Hume-Fogg Academic High School admission is then determined by a random lottery, held in January of each year, for prospective ninth-grade students. Applications for all other grades go onto waiting lists. Students completing eighth grade at Meigs Middle School, who qualify and wish to attend Hume-Fogg the next year, should complete a continuation form at Meigs.
