Writers Showcase Winners Congratulations to all our Writers Showcase Winners, who were honored yesterday at a special ceremony held at Belmont University. Hume-Fogg students took 47 of the 88 prizes available in the High School Writing categories ( in other words, over one-half of all the writing awards given for all entries by all Nashville public high schools). Hume Fogg won a total of 14 of the available 22 first place awards, or almost two-thirds of all first place wards given for high school writers. Hume-Fogg took 5 of the 8 Critical Review awards given, 5 of the 8 Sports Writing awards, 6 of the 8 short stort awards, 6 of the 8 Snapshot writing awards, and 7 of the 8 News Writing awards.
Special thanks go to Mr. Cash and Ms. Handy, our teachers who coordinated our Writers Showcase competition, and Mrs. Oettel, whose journalism students swept all four of the News Writing awards for 11th and 12th graders. |

Three Seniors Win at the 2008 Tennessee Junior Academy of Sciences
Our senior class recently attended the Tennessee Junior Academy of Sciences meeting, held at Belmont University. Three School students presented research papers from projects completed during internships in Vanderbilt University labs. Twenty-two papers were presented from students across Tennessee. Awards were given to the top 7 papers. There were two $500 prizes and five $200 prizes. School students Natalie Christian, Natalie Darar, and Runbin Dong each won a $200 prize. Their research papers will be published in the annual Handbook and Transactions of the Tennessee Junior Academy of Science, published each fall and distributed to all high schools in Tennessee. Congratulations, students!
